"Summit to Build Bridges and Create an Action Plan"

Taclking the Affordability and Accessability Health Care Crisis
in Middle Tennessee

On January 12, 2009 approximately seventy high level decision makers from regional, state and national health care providers and policy groups were convened at Lipscomb University’s Institute for Conflict Management (ICM) to engage in a structured discussion about steps that should and could be taken to begin to resolve the crisis of affordability and accessibility in middle Tennessee. Although affordability of health care is a crisis issue to all stakeholders impacted by the system, the day’s discussions focused almost exclusively on the uninsured and underinsured in our communities.

The agenda for the day gave participants a common platform of information from which to draw, an opportunity to reflect on their organizations’ needs, as well as on the possibilities and opportunities to work together to solve tough issues.

Looking across the small-group discussions, the plenaries, and the final round of personal and organizational commitments, four broad themes emerged that form a single consensus of the day that serves as a CALL TO ACTION:
  1. Enhance the Resources Available for Care Of The Under- And Uninsured

  2. Collaborate to Develop Systems for Enhancing Resource Efficiency

  3. Collaborate to Develop Regional Policies, Delivery Systems and Healthcare Data Sharing

  4. Continue Actively Facilitated Conversations to Reach These Goals
